Saturday, June 2, Ryder Smith came to visit me at the Academy Road Festival. He was promoting action to improve accessibility for Manitobans. In 2013, all parties in the Manitoba Legislature supported the Accessibility for Manitobans Act. Sadly progress since that time has not been as good as it needs to be to meet the targets legislated under the act. Indeed targets are already being missed, for the Pallister government missed the targeted date for appointing a person to head the review into the Act. This means the review will be late, and may mean a variety of changes such as a commitment to meet the education standard under the act, may proceed more slowly than they should. The result is that Barrier Free Manitoba has launched the "Broken Promises" campaign to remind Manitobans that progress under the Act in making Manitoba accessible has been slow.
