This morning, I was at École River Heights School for their National Indigenous Day activities. The students have put a lot of effort into understanding the history of indigenous people in Manitoba and in Canada. Their efforts highlight the achievements of indigenous people - for example Daphne Odjig, a brilliant and famous indigenous artist who spent a critical period of her artistic career in Chemawawin and Winnipeg in Manitoba (see poster below). They also learned about residential schools and the 60s scoop. During my visit I talked to Eve Einarson about her report on Poverty and was escorted to various rooms and displays by Grace Baker and Aidan Fuith. Thank you Grace, Aidan and Eve.
